An evening that starts promising for all involved leaves all the characters disappointed. Sheldon’s (Jim Parsons) attempt to watch Star Wars on Blu-ray is interrupted by annoying blue jay on the apartment’s windowsill as Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny’s (Kaley Cuoco) night out as friends runs into a few snags of its own.

When animal control proves unconcerned with the situation Sheldon’s obsession forces him to enlist help. And when Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and Howard ( Simon Helberg) prove unhelpful (they’re far more interested in watching Sheldon freak-out than offering assistance), Sheldon turns to Amy (Mayim Bialik) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch). Despite Sheldon’s fear of birds, Bernadette is finally able to get the wackadoodle to accept the blue jay. Unfortunately, Sheldon’s evening ends with him even more agitated than it began.

Penny and Leonard’s trip to the movies and a bar afterwards fills Leonard with a new found freedom as he’s actually able to express his real opinion about what movie he wants to see (now that sex is off the table), and get Penny to pay her fair share. Tables are turned when the his ex starts chatting up a guy in the bar, but the night ends poorly for both of them include hurling insults at each other loud enough to make sure neither of them is going home with someone else.

Each story provides some nice laughs and it’s also good to see the show finally working on the state of Penny and Leonard’s relationship. Sheldon’s turnaround with the bird feels far too rushed for someone as entrenched in his own beliefs, but it does let the story end on a high not as well.
