Super Sons/Dynomutt Special #1

Super Sons/Dynomutt Special #1 comic reviewOne of the problems when crossing over characters from different universes is the tone may not match. Now with throwing together DC Comics and those from Hanna-Barbera the most obvious choice would be to go for more the kid-friendly Saturday morning carton versions of the DC heroes to match the HB counterparts. And when you are dealing with the sons of Batman and Superman as well, that seems like a no-brainer. Sadly, that’s not the case with Super Sons/Dynomutt Special #1 which instead decides to bring Blue Falcon and Dynomutt into a more gritty reality where they don’t belong.

After offering an origin story for Blue Falcon and Dynomutt, things fast-forward to Damian saving Jon Kent from a funeral when the pair come across a wounded (and visually disturbing) Dynomutt whose mind-controlled partner is now doing the bidding of the evil Red Vulture. The pair spring into action to help Dynomutt free his friend and stop the Red Vulture. As a fan of all the characters involved I can’t help but be disappointed in the bizarre choices made here. Something more along the tone of Scooby-Doo! Team-Up would have made a far more obvious (and fun) choice over this bizarre entry. Pass.
