Melissa Benoist

The CW has found it’s Supergirl and she’s… a brunette? The Hollywood Reporter is reporting Glee‘s Melissa Benoist has been cast in the role of Superman’s younger cousin Kara Zor-El for the network’s proposed Supergirl TV-series.

And Supergirl may not be the only DC hero to get her own show as Deadline reports The CW is in talks to spin-off the Atom (Arrow‘s Brandon Routh) into his own show as well.

Covert Affairs

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that USA Network has cancelled Covert Affairs. Premiering in the summer of 2010 the show starred Piper Perabo as talented but green new agent Annie Walker who grew and blossomed into the Agency’s best field agent over the show’s five year run. Sadly, this ends the show on a cliffhanger with the futures of several characters still in doubt. It also leaves me with only a single USA show that I’m still watching (Graceland) for a network that has been a staple of my regular viewing for years. You will be missed Miss Walker but you gave us a great ride.

Set five years before the original Star Wars (no, I’m not going to refer to it as “A New Hope”), the series centers around a group of rebels including a former Jedi (Freddie Prinze Jr.), a teenage con artist (Taylor Gray), the ship’s muscle (Steve Blum) and pilot (Vanessa Marshall), an explosives expert (Tiya Sircar), and an astromech droid.

ComingSoon.net and Machinima are reporting that DC has a new Justice League animated series planned to coincide with the theatrical release of Justice League: Gods and Monsters. Although I’m not excited for the new series adopting the darker tone of the recent DC movies, the news that Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett will produce the series certainly makes me feel better about the chances of the show than the upcoming film.
