Dead of Winter: Good Good Dog #1

Dead of Winter: Good Good Dog #1 comic reviewSure, there are plenty of post-apocalyptic comics out there where zombies roam the desolate remains of the Earth, but how many star a former canine television star turned zombie killing machine? Dead of Winter: Good Good Dog #1 introduces us to Sparky, a Lassie-like former star, who now helps her friends fight off the zombie horde and rescue other survivors before they become part of the undead buffet.

It’s an odd premise, and I’ve got to admit I wouldn’t have even given the comic a first (let along second) look if the cover hadn’t caught my eye. Who was this golden retriever with a Superman cape surrounded by zombies? Other than the unusual mutt, the first issue doesn’t bring much to the table in terms of separating it from a number of other similar stories. I’ll give credit to writer Kyle Starks for playing a little coy with just how smart Sparky is, and just how much the dog understands about what is going on in the world.

Is Dead of Winter: Good Good Dog a comic I’m likely to stick with? No, not really. However, for a single issue I was entertained. For fans.
