the-mentalist-season-fourConsultant, and former fake psychic and con man, Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) returns for another season of helping the California Bureau of Investigation solve crimes. After dealing with last season’s cliffhanger that saw Jane shoot the man he believed to be Red John in cold blood, a crime for which he’s found not guilty in the season opener, things get back to business as usual.

Season Four of The Mentalist is highlighted by Jane burying a man alive, Jane working a case with another CBI team, a murder investigation involving Lisbon’s (Robin Tunneyformer fiance, Jane’s nervous breakdown and relationship with a disciple (Emmanuelle Chriqui) of Red John, a new serial killer (David Paymer), an attack which leaves Jane with temporary amnesia, a case involving one of Jane’s old clients (Kelli Williams), Jane helping an old friend  (Andrew Rothenberg) rob a casino, and the return of both cult leader Bret Styles (Malcolm McDowell) and Morena Baccarin as the manipulative and seductive relationship guru turned murderer Erica Flynn.

There are several ongoing storylines for the season as well. For several episodes Jane attempts to keep the secret that Red John is still alive from FBI Agent Susan Darcy (Catherine Dent), Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) becomes a father, Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) works out her anger issues left from having to kill her fiance (Eric Winter), and Cho (Tim Kang) begins a relationship with a confidential informant (Samaire Armstrong).

The five-disc set includes all 24 episodes. Although previous seasons have included deleted scenes for select episodes, none are included here. The only feature this time around is a featurette on actual former CBI, FBI, and police officers who work as expert consultants for the series.
