Who’s That Girl – Amy Ferguson

Amy FergusonAlways the bridesmaid, never the bride. True, she might not grab the starring role, but she finds a way to keep popping up in movies and television, almost always reminding us that we have seen her before, even if we can’t quite remember where. And from time to time, she may even stay on-screen long enough to find a way to steal the spotlight for a memorable scene or two. Even if we can’t quite remember her name we immediately recognize her face and search furiously through our brains to remember where we have seen “that girl” before.

Most will remember actress/singer/songwriter/model Amy Ferguson from her role as “that girl” in Garden State. Ferguson has a small supporting role as Dana, the character Andrew Largeman (Zach Braff) makes out with at a party the night before he meets the love of his life (Natalie Portman).

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Ferguson moved to New York at the age of 18 to pursue a career in modeling. After 18 months in the modeling business (appearing in ads for Abercrombie & Fitch, GAP, American Eagle, and others), Ferguson relocated to Los Angeles to begin a career as an actress and a singer-songwriter under the name of Grandma Dirt.

Her role in Garden State was the first time she appeared in film. Although she never hit it big with a starring role in a big Hollywood production to call her own, Ferguson has worked steadily over the years and has popped up in small roles in both television and film in Scrubs, Heart of Dixie, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, The Social Network, Tanner Hall, and The Master.
