When a sniper starts killing random New Yorkers the NYPD is on the case, but the type of killings push Beckett (Stana Katic) over the edge, making her remember her own shooting. As her friends try to cover for her, the post-traumatic stress proves too much to handle.

Aside from the personal tie to Beckett’s story, the episode also give Esposito (Jon Huertas) a chance to show off his own skill set with an in-depth knowledge of how a sniper thinks and plans a shooting. And its Esposito, not Castle (Nathan Fillion), who is able to talk to Beckett and momentarily stop her downward spiral to find the killer.

Michael Dorn returns as Beckett’s psychologist helping her work through her struggles. The episode ends with Beckett on the shrink’s couch with an interesting twist that may foreshadow major changes for the character.

“Kill Shot” is Katic’s episode and she nails her character’s loss of control and temporary fall into madness. She comes out of the situation stronger, and is able to help bring the killer to justice, but the entire episode looks like it will lasting effect on the character, and the show.
