All isn’t sunny for Hal Jordan (Josh Keaton) in Green Lantern: The Animated Series‘ Second Season premiere as the Green Lantern of Sector 2814 returns to Earth after stopping the Red Lantern invasion only to find he has been fired from Ferris Air, his relationship with Carol (Jennifer Hale) is in shambles. and a replacement Green Lantern (who everyone but Hal seems to love) has taken over his duties in Hal’s absence.

The show’s choice to introduce Guy Gardner (voiced by Diedrich Bader) is a good one, and Hal’s continuing incredulity at how much everyone else seems to love the glory hound produces some fun moments. Not surprisingly, the two eventually throw down, but they’ll have to put their issues aside when they learn a trio of Manhunters is on Earth. If the robots aren’t stopped they will kill every living being on the planet. Despite their differences, the two manage to work well together before Hal reports to Oa for reassignment.

Given the odd CGI design of the show I’m not sure if the villain who reactivates the Manhunters is supposed to be the Anti-Monitor or not, but I’m sure we’ll get more on him as the season continues. The end of Hal’s relationship with Carol (for now) and his new assignment from the Corps gives the show endless possibilities as Jordan is promoted to the Green Lantern Honor Guard and will now rove through all of Guardian space, going where he’s needed… possibly even to Sector 1417? The introduction of Guy gives the show another GL to tell stories with on Earth as well as give Hal another ally to call on if needed.
