After gathering for the funeral of Malia (Reiko Aylesworth) the Five-0 task force investigates an armed robbery of an art gallery that turns into a hostage situation when one of the robbers and a police officer are shot. Meanwhile, with too many questions surrounding her recent meeting with Wo Fat (Mark Dacascos), McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) enlists the help of Catherine (Michelle Borth) to help find his mother (Christine Lahti) who has disappeared back into witness protection.

With Kono (Grace Park) undercover as a paramedic the hostage situation is quickly resolved, but with one robber dead and the getaway driver killed as well there aren’t too many clues left for the team to find. Looking for any help they can get, McGarrett and Danny (Scott Caan) approach August March (Edward Asner) hoping he can lead them to whoever the crooks might use to fence their, relatively worthless, merchandise.

Max is able to identify the getaway driver as a wealthy retired stunt car driver whose daughter was kidnapped (and is still missing) to force his cooperation in the robbery. Through a source of March, Five-0 is able to track the robbers to a warehouse and recover the missing artwork, but they find both members of the gang dead and no sign of the missing girl. However, the team does find evidence that a couple of priceless pieces of art, missing since 1941 and not on the gallery owner’s (Adam Kaufman) list of stolen items, were part of the theft as well.

Recovering the paintings leads the team right back to August March whose print was found on one of canvases. It also leads them to the gun used to kill the two dead robbers and a certain diamond thief (Rebecca Ocampo) last year. Five-0 is able to find the girl and return her to her mother (Missy Yager), however, the March has one last card to play.

I’m glad Asner return for another episode, and I certainly understand the logic behind his final scene, but I’m sad to see the character of August March won’t be showing up for any future episodes. It’s good to see Catherine return in her new role as a series regular (with Borth looking very nice in both a bikini and a pair of cut-off jean shorts). Her scene pumping the unsuspecting U.S. Marshall (Carlos Bernard) for information is entertaining and provides more intrigue into Steve’s mother, who apparently never left Hawaii.
