“Who else, on the planet Earth, could turn a nice, relaxing day of fishing
into a boat jacking and a shark encounter?”

McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) and Danny’s (Scott Caan) fishing trip, and argument over the intelligence in having your girlfriend (Michelle Borth) spy on your mother (Christine Lahti), turns deadly when their boat is hijacked and they are left for dead in the middle of the ocean with a leaky dingy and no land in sight.

Unable to contact either Steve or Danny, Catherine and Kono (Grace Park) grow worried when the pair are more than 3-hours overdue for their return. Chin (Daniel Dae Kim) traces the GPS on the boat to a dock on the other end of the island but all they find is a bloody shirt and a lot of unanswered questions. Meanwhile, the pair of stranded sailors come upon another boat, and the dead body their thief (Todd Stashwick) was fleeing.

After being rescued, and arrested, by the Coast Guard the pair has some explaining to do on the long trip back to the islands where Five-0 officially takes over control of the investigation. After talking with the victim’s widow (Cynthia Watros) and sister (Julie McNiven) Kono is able to connect the out-of-work security guard to the victim whose wife he had been stalking. However, the discovery of the guard’s real relationship with the victim’s wife won’t be soon enough to stop a second murder.

Having the pair stuck in the middle of the ocean gives the episode plenty of time for the McGarrett/Danny relationship to provide some trademark back-and-forth zingers as well as give us insight into Danny’s hatred of the ocean. Kono and Chin’s disagreement, which almost gets him killed when she leaves him without back-up, isn’t handled as well, but it’s good to see that Kono’s relationship with Adam Noshimuri (Ian Anthony Dale) is a sore subject for Chin that isn’t going to be ignored.
