Legends of Tomorrow - Shogun

“Shogun” is more interesting for the potential impact of several plot points than the events themselves as the team’s number continues to grow and one character is left at a crossroads in his own super-hero career. With Ray (Brandon Routh) and Nate (Nick Zano) trapped in feudal Japan and the ship in need of immediate repairs (both caused by Nate testing out his new super-powers), Sara (Caity Lotz), Mick (Dominic Purcell), and the stowaway Vixen (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) head after the missing Legends.

It seems that after learning that Hourman was killed by a time traveler, Vixen stowed away aboard the and very nearly took out the entire crew before realizing that they might not be the killer she’s looking for. The truth of that mystery is put on hold thanks to an unscheduled stop in Japan where Nate continues to struggle controlling his new powers (as he gets wrapped up in a short love story), and Ray looses his suit to a warlord intent on using it to conquer the entire region. With no other choice, Ray decides the suit must be destroyed rather than allow the shogun to use it any longer.

The events of the episode aren’t anything special, but they do allow Sara to kick some samurai butt and reveal Mick’s fascination with ninjas (which turns out to be a nice touch), but there’s actually quite a bit of character building here I’m casually optimistic to see pay off later this season. By the end of the episode the Legends have two new members, Ray is left without his suit (possibly meaning the next incarnation of the Atom may look more like his comic counterpart and less like an Iron Man rip-off), and two members of the crew have stumbled on a secret about the future which the show keeps from their teammates and the viewers… at least for now.
