Second Chance - Gelassenheit

Second Chance‘s first, and likely only, season comes to a close in “Gelassenheit” as Jimmy (Robert Kazinsky), Duval (Tim DeKay), and Alexa (Vanessa Lengies) to take down Connor Graff (Adan Canto) and rescue the kidnapped Gracie (Ciara Bravo) from his super-secret lab. Meanwhile, Mary (Dilshad Vadsaria) will round up the brightest minds left in the ruins of Lookinglass in hopes of finding a way to save Jimmy before his time runs out.

The final two episodes of the show’s season produce some major changes. The FBI, at least at some level, learns the truth about Jimmy. The core cast learns the truth about Alexa. And Otto (Adhir Kalyan) will make an important realization about his work which will lead the scientist to make a sacrifice to save both Jimmy and Gracie and ensure Graff can go no farther down the dark path which has left countless bodies in his wake.

Neither the show’s shortened run nor it’s mediocre ratings suggest Second Chance has earned its own chance at a second season. The show offered an unique set-up but often struggled to fit that world in a crime of the week format. The death of a major character, and Jimmy being forced to say farewell to his family again, certainly offer the opportunity for a completely revamped feel to the show should Fox decides to bring it back. Whether or not it ends with this episode, the ominous epilogue lets audience know that despite the good the sheriff has done since his resurrection, in the end things will end badly for Sheriff Jimmy Pritchard and those he loves.
