The Blacklist - The Pavlovich Brothers

After Tom (Ryan Eggold) discovers Lizzie (Megan Boone) is on to him and disappears, Reddington (James Spader) enlists the services of the very members of The Blacklist he’s sent the FBI after, a foursome of brothers known for their skill in abduction and extraction, to find Lizzie’s wayward husband and bring her home.

Returning the Pavlovich Brothers (who made an appearance in the show’s Pilot episode) and the eventual rescue of a Chinese scientist who knows valuable invormation about a secret biological weapons program is far less interesting than Lizzie’s “trouble at home.” With the help of the kidnappers, Reddington delivers Tom to his wife. Providing only a few answers before escaping, and planting a seed of doubt about who Red truly is in Lizzie’s mind, there’s no big reveal as both Tom’s true purpose as the identity of his superiors is still yet to be revealed.

The choice to force the confrontation between Tom and Lizzie is necessary as the show had already drawn out the lies between the pair for far too long. Tom’s confession during the short torture sequence suggests he may have real feelings for Lizzie (even feeling guilty about crafting a fake marriage based on lies) but primarily was only concerned with his job.

Based on next week’s preview, the deposit box’s contents won’t take long to cause the rift between Lizzie and Reddington that Tom and his superiors obviously want. With only three episodes remaining this season we can expect the pair’s working relationship may get a bit contentious, but as the show has already been renewed for a second season I wouldn’t expect the hard feelings to last.
