The Mentalist - Red Listed

Two of Jane‘s (Simon BakerRed John suspects, Reede Smith (Drew Powell) and Robert Kirkland (Kevin Corrigan), investigate Jane as a suspect in the torture and killing of a murderer he once buried alive to coerce a confession. One, however, already knows who is responsible. Jane finds the entire situation interesting since the misinformation he left out to be found by whoever was spying on the mentalist pointed to the man as one of seven fake Red John suspects. Not willing to let the other seriously awful people meet the same fate, Lisbon (Robin Tunney) enlists the help of Cho (Harry Groener), Rigsby (Owain Yeoman), and Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) to offer them all CBI protection.

Needing help, Jane calls on the recently deceased (but actually very much alive) Madeleine Hightower (Aunjanue Ellis) who confirms Jane’s suspicions that he is being watched, but for Homeland Security and not the FBI as Jane had suspected. After confronting Kirkland about the fake list and his knowledge that Homeland has been spying on him Jane finds himself kidnapped by the agent and taken to the remote location where Kirkland has already tortured and/or killed two of the mentalist’s fake suspects.

After Jane’s disappearance, Hightower comes out of hiding to help Lisbon hunt down her partner and the man willing to kill the mentalist and six, or more, innocent people to get to the serial killer who he believes is responsible for his brother’s death. Kirkland’s cover story to feel out Smith about a secret cabal in law enforcement turns out to be true as one of the Red John suspects kills another and whittles Jane’s list down to only five names.

I’ll admit Kirkland was one of my favorites to be Red John so I’m surprised to see him eliminated so early (relatively speaking). I was happy to see Hightower’s return, and her respectful but prickly relationship with Jane is always fun to watch. Next week returns another Red John suspect in Ray Haffner (Reed Diamond) as the search for the serial killer continues.

  1. Hi ^^

    I admit that in the last episode , Kirkland’s death , I didn’t see it come !
I liked this character but it’s like that !
Actually to me , Red John , the heart of the organisation , what I said for years by the way , is more than one person .
First I thought RJ was 3 guys :
    Reede Smith
    Ray Haffner
    Bob Kirkland
But now Bob is dead so …

My theory has a bit changed but not that much finally so here it is :
In the Vizualize farm a long time ago , Haffner and Smith met .
They killed the 2 men and decided to protect each others .
Maybe someone wanted to get Smith in trouble cause he was fat , you know America , and Haffner decide to help him and they killed people .
I don’t really know but feel it’s a story in that kind , a deadly frienship that later , became a very powerful organisation !
Why this story of fat boy ??
Because I think the RJ symbol is the representation of a fat boy , with falling eyes ,
I think Reede Smith had the idea of the symbol .
Normal smiley are not like that .
I think Reede Smith is the perfect guy to fit the role of Red John .
He’s got a nice face , he seems to be nice .
We noticed that the RJ friends really like him , so je must be cool I mean (except the fact he’s serial killer;))
And it seems that Reede Smith knows every member of this organisation , Kirkland ‘s trap didn’t work !

But Haffner is also Red John to me
I think he’s the one who to came to talk to Jane’s therapist .
Maybe he also Roy Tagliafero .
He protects Smith I’m 100% sure of that.
He was at the farm and hide informations to Lisbon , why ???
He protects someone very close to him .

So , I think Red John is Reede Smith and Ray Haffner !
