Young Justice - Intervention

Realizing Blue Beetle (Eric Lopez) and his Scarab are now under the complete control of the Reach Impulse (Jason Marsden), Zatanna (Lacey Chabert), Bumblebee (Masasa Moyo), Wonder Girl (Mae Whitman), and Batgirl (Alyson Stoner) set out to capture and free their friend using a magical ritual and the temple discovered earlier this season by Batgirl (where Dan Garrett first found the Scarab) before it’s too late.

In the episode’s other stories Miss Martian (Danica McKellar) finally ends her relationship with Lagoon Boy (Yuri Lowenthal) after recent events involving Artemis (Stephanie Lemelin) and Aqualad have made her take a hard look at her life and reexamine her recent choices and Black Beetle (Kevin Grevioux) attempts to keep careful watch over the key chamber of Warworld without given himself away to the Justice Leaguers also guarding the chamber.

Blue Beetle and his internal struggle gets much of the attention here, but the episode’s real standout is Zatanna who helps capture the rogue Beetle, contain him, fight off a few super-villains along the way, and flawlessly perform the ritual to grant control of their Scarabs back to Blue Beetle and Green Beetle (Phil LaMarr). She even cracks a joke or two. The episode all earns points for me for including flashbacks of both former Blue Beetle’s Dan Garret and, the most awesome Blue Beetle of all, Ted Kord.
