This Week in Film

George A. Romero returns to his roots with this tale of film students whose lives are turned upside down when the entire world becomes a zombie movie.  Joshua Close, Amy Ciupak Lalonde, Joe Dinicol, Shawn Roberts, Michelle Morgan, and Megan Park star.  Check out the MySpace page.  We’ve seen it, and we’ll have the review when the film scares itself into theaters everywhere on Friday.

This Week in Documentary Film

This documentary from Sean Fine and Andre Nix follows a group of three children from a displacement camp in northern Uganda who particpate in a music and dance festival.  One of five documentary features nominated for this year’s Oscars.  The film opens in theaters on Friday, and we’ll have the review!  Larger trailer available in the Full Diagnosis.

This Week in Film

Based on the books by Tony Diterlizzi and Holly Black comes this tale of three children (Freddie Highmore – in two roles, Sarah Bolger) who move with their mother (Mary-Louise Parker) to their Uncle’s (David Strathairn) abandoned home only to discover a world of fairies, goblins, and monsters.  Nick Nolte, Martin Short, and Joan Plowright also star.  Check out the official site.  We’ve seen it, and we’ll have the review when the film opens in theaters on Thursday.  Larger trailer available in the Full Diagnosis.

This Week in Foreign Film

A young child (Michel Joelsas) is left abandoned in 1970 Bom Retiro by his militant parents (Simone Spoladore, Eduardo Moreira) who have gone into hiding and now is forced to live with his grandfather’s next-door neighbor (Germano Haiut).  Check out the official site.  The film, presented in Portuguese, Yiddish, and German, with English subtitles, opens exclusively in New York and Los Angeles on Friday.  Larger trailer available in the Full Diagnosis.
