Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Nine #12

btvs-season-nine-12-coverWorking for Kennedy‘s new Slayer bodyguard service Buffy learns that Wolram & Hart want their latest client dead, and for good reason. Hired by the company to build a digital portal into the Hell Dimension where the Senior Partners live, it’s now the only link to the Earth following Buffy destroying the Seed at the end of Season Eight.

Unwilling to take the chance that the man might try to shut it off, knowing it would be impossible to turn back on, the Senior Partners have put a hit on the programmer. Despite the loss in money and prestige, he knows the only way to save his life is to destroy what he’s created, but that’s easier said than done.

To destroy TINCAN means shutting down the servers deep under the company’s headquarters which are guarded by a many-tentacled Teuth Demon. It also means wiping user data, stealing billions in advertising, and making enemies of several rich and influential people.

Realizing she and Kennedy need help Buffy calls in the debt Koh owes her, but things don’t go exactly as planned. Worth a look.

Following an unprecedented ratings drop involving the loss of half their audience in five days for refusing to cover the Casey Anthony trial News Night 2.0 has to step back from the moral high ground, much to MacKenzie’s (Emily Mortimer) displeasure, and cover the stories the American audience wants to hear. They may also be in danger of losing their chance to host the Republican debate (and a format the political party will never agree to) which is what most of the staffers (John Gallagher Jr.Alison PillAdina PorterChris ChalkMargaret JudsonDev Patel) are gearing up for on the three-day Memorial Day weekend.

Fairest #6

fairest-6-coverThe first story arc of Fairest comes to a close. In part six of “Wide Awake” the Snow Queen faces off against Hadeon. Although last issue’s final panel made it seem like Snow would be getting help from the seven faerie godmothers the issue takes an immeadiate turn as Snow has to go one-on-one against the witch.

Luckily for the Snow Queen she gets an unexpected ally when Briar Rose shows up to face the woman who tried to kill her at birth. And, as so happens when magic backfires, Briar Rose turns out to be just the right woman to put the bitch down for good.

There’s plenty of action here, although the comic is constantly cutting away from it for some reason. And in the end Hadeon gets what she deserves and true to Jonah Panghammer‘s word Ali Baba find true love (now he just has to keep in mind her short temper).

The series may not quite go out with a bang. It’s still quite good but I’m ready for the comic to move in a different direction. Next month brings us a new arc featuring Beauty and the Beast in 1940’s Los Angeles. Worth a look.

[Vertigo, $2.99]
