Arrow - The Odyssey

After Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) gets shot while trying to get information from Moira (Susanna Thompson) about “the undertaking” and her missing husband (Colin Salmon) a wounded vigilante hides out in the back of Felicity Smoak‘s (Emily Bett Rickards) car and convinces her to drive him to his hidden base under his father’s old factory. As Diggle (David Ramsey) and Felicity try to patch up his bullet wound and save their friend, an unconscious Oliver remembers back to his days of training with Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett) and their attempt to fly the island all those years ago.

After coming clean with Laurel (Allie Gonino) about the twins’ secret, Emma (Alexandra Chando) enlists the help of both Laurel and Ethan (Blair Redford) to catch Rebecca (Charisma Carpenter) and Sutton in their web of deception but neither is too keen on betraying Sutton even if it does mean an end to the lies. Ethan also finds his renewed relationship with Sutton on shaky ground once he learns Emma and Thayer (Christian Alexander) have returned from Los Angeles and he has to deal with the feelings for the twin he isn’t dating.

Pretty Little Liars - What Becomes of the Broken Hearted

amour-posterIf you have any personal experience with watching a loved one suffer a stroke or face the slow and debilitating end-of-life process writer/director Michael Haneke‘s Amour is likely to hit closer to home than you may like. Haneke’s tale is as simple as it is heartfelt, showcasing the strain of a stroke on the lives and the marriage of an elderly couple in their final months together.

Although there are cameo roles which include the couple’s daughter (Isabelle Huppert) and a former piano student (Alexandre Tharaud), Amour is really centered around the performances of Jean-Louis Trintignant as George and Emmanuelle Riva as his wife Anne. The entire film never leaves the walls in which the pair have made their home together which slowly becomes a prison for both of them when Anne suffers a second stroke.

Despite its success overseas, and several awards to its credit on this side of the Atlantic, Amour is only now slowly being released in the United States. You may have to search to find it, but despite its difficult subject matter it’s worth the wait.
