Ame-Comi Girls #3

Ame-Comi Girls #3Ame-Comi Girls #3, which centers around the alternate reality female-centric version of the DCU, introduces a new hero and a pair of villains with the latest issue. Jade, a blind Chinese woman without fear becomes the Earth’s first Green Lantern just in time to save herself, her father, and her brother from an attack by the villainous Flying Guillotine. Chinese officials are delighted to have such a powerful warrior of its own, although they are less than pleased the ring chose “a mere girl” and hope to reappropriate it as a military asset.

In the comics other story Carol Ferris, the first woman to step on the moon, comes across a crashed alien spaceship and (in a version of Hal Jordan‘s origin) discovers a dying alien who makes her the Earth’s first Star Sapphire. The issue also includes Wonder Woman and Power Girl announcing to the United Nations their plans to create a Justice League which will operate under the jurisdiction of Themyscira. The stories begin to converge at the end of the issue when Carol looses herself to her new found power and starts a fight with Power Girl over the affections of Jimmy Olsen.

Presented mostly from the perspective of Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh) and Jenny Flint (Catrin Stewart), “The Crimson Horror” follows the Silurian detective and her companion, along with their (always amusing) Sontaran butler Strax (Dan Starkey), on their investigation of a number of glowing red-skinned corpses in Sweetville, the private community of self-professed savior Winifred Gillyflower (Diana Rigg). Given an image captured in the latest victim’s eyes at the time of his death, Vastra believes The Doctor (Matt Smith) may be connected somehow to the troubling events and sends Jenny in undercover to find him.

Following his only lead to one of the elusive Tesla letters, XIII (Stuart Townsend) heads back to New York to crash a 24-hour birthday party thrown by an insane Russian national Andrej Kalishkanov (Steve Bacic), a private collector who Dr. Westlund (Kenneth Welsh) told XIII was in possession of one of the three letters. Borrowing an invitation from a TV producer XIII makes his way into the party, but he isn’t the only uninvited guest as Mozambique (Wole Daramola) smuggles Betty (Roxane Mesquida) into the party inside a giant Chinese statue.

Owen (Devon Sawa) and Amanda (Melinda Clarke) prepare to sell the Black Box to the highest bidder at the G20 Summit in Toronto. Owen wets the appetites of potential buyers by giving them a preview such as ABIN’s Director who Owen teases with the knowledge that Nikita (Maggie Q) and Division are responsible for his brother’s assassination and that all the information he needs for revenge can be his, for a price. Thanks to Cyrus (Isaiah Mustafa) what’s left of Division knows where the sale is going down, but Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca) will have to put up her own money to give them a shot and getting the box (and try to help atone for her recent actions).

The new documentary from Robert Stone looks back at the history of nuclear power and the growing number of environmentalists who once feared it but now champion it as a form of alternative energy.
