Sinbad - Queen of the Water-Thieves

After surviving the storm that killed the rest of the ship’s passengers and crew, Sinbad (Elliot Knight), Anwar (Dimitri Leonidas), Rina (Marama Corlett), Gunnar (Elliot Cowan), and Nala (Estella Daniels) are taken captive by the Water-Thieves who confiscate their ship and deliver them as prisoners to their Queen (Sophie Okonedo). Stepping foot on land again for the first time since his curse, Sinbad has only a single day and night to try and charm the Queen and save himself and his friends who are meant to feed the cannibalistic tribe of Water-Thieves.

After XIII (Stuart Townsend), Betty (Roxane Mesquida), and Amos (Greg Bryk) escape The Pit, Victor Gong seals off the district using local law enforcement and dusts the entire area with a chemical weapon known as “Bezerk” designed to increase paranoia, abnormal strength, and agitation in order to cause violence and riots among the targeted population. Trapped in the middle of an entire district out of control, the three try to hold it together long enough to get the antidote and then reach an extraction point.

After a recent prison riot in which Travis (Roger R. Cross) kills six prisoners, Inspector Dillon (Brian Markinson) decides to move the Liber8 member before things escalate any further. To do this Kiera (Rachel Nichols) and Carlos (Victor Webster) will have to find a way to work with Agent Gardner (Nicholas Lea) who has been reassigned to the Liber8 task force. Despite not wanting Travis saved, Sonya (Lexa Doig) organizes a Liber8 extraction during the prison transfer who don’t fall for the decoy convoy, putting Kiera and Carlos in serious danger and making everyone wonder if there isn’t a mole inside the department (who Gardner wrongly suspects is Kiera).

Herobear and the Kid Special #1

Herobear and the Kid Special #1Writer and artist Mike Kunkel’s Herobear and the Kid has a very strong Calvin and Hobbes feel to it. The Eisner Award winning stories center around the misadventures of an easily distracted young boy named Tyler and his stuffed polar bear who, when no one is looking, transforms into a full-sized bear with super-powers.

Herobear and the Kid Special #1 follows a common theme of Tyler getting sidetracked by adventures which first cause him to be late for school and then almost make him miss “Picture Day” at school as Tyler and Herobear set out to stop an attack on the Simpleton Bridge from Von Klon and his Sub of Doom.

At $4 its a little pricey for an all-ages comic (although that seems to be the going rate for these now). I enjoy Kunkel’s black and white style, with flashes of red (which actually remind me of some of Matt Wagner‘s far darker Grendel stories). Worth a look.

Now officially part of the undercover team, and forced to learn an entire new set of rules not given to him at Quantico, Mike (Aaron Tveit) begins to question the consequences of Briggs’ (Daniel Sunjata) undercover methods while trying to force his way onto an active case by proposing to sell the cop-killer bullets Jakes (Brandon Jay McLaren) recently confiscated in an effort to take down a lieutenant (Sheaun McKinney) of a would-be gang lord that Briggs has been working of for months. Mike also takes a mandated trip to a FBI shrink following last week’s shooting, only to discover the psychiatrist assigned to his case is actually his control officer (Pedro Pascal) for his secret investigation into Briggs.
