Human Target - Corner Man television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to another episode from the First Season of Human Target. By the time it got to “Corner Man” Human Target was running on all cylinders. The show had found the right combination of humor, action, and a beautiful guest-star. Helping out a fighter (Dash Mihok) who got in over his head, Chance (Mark Valley) makes a deal with an old enemy (Kenneth Welsh), calls in a favor with a championship boxer, and puts himself in danger in an underground ultimate fighting championship all to take down a crooked promoter (Peter Wingfield). Complicating matters are a case of the yips leaving our hero not fighting at 100% and his distraction with the mark’s right-hand woman (Grace Park) in whom he sees more than a little of himself reflected.

Will Eisner's The Spirit: The Corpse-Makers #4 comic reviewThe fourth issue of the five-issue mini-series finally makes its way to comic shops. Opening with the Spirit‘s capture and torture at the hands of the bizarre group, Will Eisner’s The Spirit: The Corpse-Makers #4 introduces the Spirit to private investigator Lisa Marlowe. Although the art of Marlowe retelling her story is terrific, writer/artist Francesco Francavilla does go over quite a bit of familiar ground for the audience to get our hero up to speed.

Heading into the final issue we still don’t know who the hooded cult is, the reason for the zombies, or what any of them are after. Now that Marlowe and the Spirit are finally working together (and since we’ve only got one issue left), I think it’s a pretty good bet that answers will come fast and furious in the next issue.

The third episode of The Orville makes a dramatic turn after two episodes setting up the show as sitcom with Star Trek trappings. “About a Girl” centers around the Orville’s second officer Lt. Commander Bortus (Peter Macon) and his mate Klyden (Chad L. Coleman) whose baby is born female – a cultural deformity according to the pair’s race. After Dr. Finn (Penny Johnson Jerald) refuses to perform a sex change on the infant, Bortus and Klyden request assistance from their government leading to a trial on their homeworld with Commander Kelly Grayson (Adrianne Palicki) pleading for the baby to remain female.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie

The LEGO Ninjago Movie movie reviewFor years LEGO has released video games, television shows, and straight-to-video movies centered around LEGO characters. The successes of The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie at the box office seem to have emboldened the company to try their hands at more theatrical releases. Maybe they should have stopped with Batman.

For those unfamiliar, Ninjago is a LEGO line centered around a group of young ninja heroes protecting the realm of Ninjago and fighting off various enemies including the brother of their instructor Sensei Wu (Jackie Chan), the evil Garmadon (Justin Theroux).

There are several changes to the early seasons of the Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu which introduced these characters. Lloyd (Dave Franco), the youngest of the group and son of their arch-nemesis, has been aged to fit more closely with his peers. Meanwhile the rest of the ninjas have all be de-aged to put the entire group in high school. Everyone has also become far less ninja-like with none of our heroes having mastered the elements tied to their powers (something the show dealt with seven or so seasons ago).
