The Blacklist - Nachalo / Konets TV review

It wasn’t that long ago that I checked in on The Blacklist and found Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) obsessed with destroying Raymond Reddington (James Spader). The pair’s love/hate relationship comes to a close in the final two episodes of the show’s Eighth Season which also marks Boone’s exit from the show. While the show never fully commits to delivering Elizabeth Keen the answers about her parents and Red’s true identity in so many words, much can be gleaned from what is suggested in these final two episodes. In “Nachalo,” Red delivers Liz into the heart of the Blacklist and offers more information about her mother. And in “Konets,” the ailing Red decides to sacrifice himself by offering Liz all the answers she seeks if she kills him and assumes control of his organization.

Kung Fu - Isolation television review

Nicky (Olivia Liang), Henry (Eddie Liu), and Evan (Gavin Stenhouse) head into the Canadian wilderness on the single clue Nicky has to her missing aunt’s last known location. Although she doesn’t find who she was looking for, Nicky does find what her aunt left behind which may help fill in some of the gaps, answer some of her questions, and prepare her for what is to come. Elsewhere, Zhilan (Yvonne Chapman) and Kerwin Tan (Ludi Lin) grow to trust each other a little more and agree to work together to gather the remaining weapons (including those Kerwin’s father has already acquired).

Spawn’s Universe #1

Spawn's Universe #1 comic reviewThe oversized Spawn’s Universe #1 creates a moment of change in the battle of Heaven versus Hell as Spawn, Gunslinger Spawn, and Cogliostro are captured by a new villain calling himself the Disruptor who has plans for the trio and is using leftover power from the Omega Spawn to wreak havoc across the world.

For someone who remembers the release of Spawn #1 but hasn’t been a regular reader of the title for decades, Spawn’s Universe #1 feels a bit unwieldy. It’s large, boasts of importance, and even offer more Spawns (both in the main storyline and back-up stories). It also requires you to go back and read some recent Spawn comics to make sense of just what the hell is going on here (something 66 pages overflowing with narration should help alleviate).

Loki - Lamentis television review

After a brief stop at the TVA, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and his better looking variant self going by the name of Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) find themselves trapped on a world about to be destroyed in one of the apocalypses the female Loki had saved on her TemPad. “Lamentis,” named after the doomed planet which the two Lokis have no way of escaping, offers an odd couple pairing as we see the various ways the pair are similar yet different from one another as they try one desperate plan after another to escape their fate. And in a reveal that shocks Loki, he learns that everyone (not just himself) who works for the TVA is a time variant (although most seem completely oblivious to the truth). “Lamentis” isn’t the best episode of the series yet, but it does offer its share of fun moments involving Loki spending a little time with themselves. With the destruction of the world immenent, it’s likely the series will shake things up yet again offering something new for its fourth episode.
