The Second Season of A Series of Unfortunate Events opens with Violet (Malina Weissman), Klaus (Louis Hynes), and baby Sunny at Prufrock Preparatory School. Here they find both old and new kinds of trouble. Forced to live in a orphan shack and attend classes teaching worthless information, the Baudelaires will continue to search in vain for information about their parents and the unusual circumstances they have found themselves in. A Series of Unfortunate Events - The Miserable Mill television review

The two-part season finale offers a slight change to the proceedings but doesn’t stray too far from the formula we’ve seen in previous episodes. The only difference this time is that the Violet (Malina Weissman), Klaus (Louis Hynes), and baby Sunny choose their latest location as they are put to work in the Lucky Strikes Lumber Mill where they hope to learn information about their parents. And, once again Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) shows up in yet another ridiculous disguise hoping to get his hands on the children and their fortune. In the show’s biggest twist, we also see the the fate of Will Arnett and Cobie Smulders who are revealed not to be the Baudelaire’s parents, but part of the same mysterious society and those of another group of unfortunate children who should cross the paths of the Baudelaires next season.

A Series of Unfortunate Events - The Wide Window TV review

The turbulent lives of the Baudelaire children get no easier when Violet (Malina Weissman), Klaus (Louis Hynes), and baby Sunny meet their new guardian Aunt Josephine (Alfre Woodard) who proves to be far-less fearless than her reputation. As with the previous episode, the conflict stems from the arrival of Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) in another ridiculous disguise that somehow only the Baudelaires are able to see through. This time the villain arrives as a ship captain attempting to woo their guardian to get control of the children and their fortune.

A Series of Unfortunate Events - The Reptile Room TV review

The third and fourth episodes of A Series of Unfortunate Events relocate the Baudelaire children to the home of an eccentric, but mostly harmless, uncle. A renown herpetologist, Dr. “Monty” Montgomery (Aasif Mandvi) proves to be a far more fitting guardian for Violet (Malina Weissman), Klaus (Louis Hynes), and baby Sunny than Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) ever could be. Unfortuantely for everyone involved, Olaf shows up on Monty’s doorstep disguised as his new assistant. Knowing the man can’t be trusted, but believing it’s safer to keep the villain where he can be watched, Monty allows Olaf to stay. This, of course, turns out to be a deadly mistake.
