The nature of Dutch‘s (Hannah John-Kamen) connection to both Khlyen (Rob Stewart) and Aneela (John-Kamen) has been one the show’s writers have kept close to the vest, until now. With the help of Zeph (Kelly McCormack), Dutch undergoes a risky medical procedure which allows her to see into the memories of Aneela allowing the Killjoy to discover the nature of Khlyen’s relationship with her more evil and unstable doppelganger and better understand what led Klein to rescue her all those years ago. Like most of the show’s reveals, it’s about as bizarre as possible. And answers she finds only raises further questions for Dutch and who and what she is.

The war against the Hullen begins as Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) leads a culling of the local branch of the Rack which goes horribly wrong when the Killjoys discover they have been betrayed by one of their own (Erik Knudsen). While Dutch continues to skulk around playing whack-a-Hullen, Johnny (Aaron Ashmore) and D’Avin (Luke Macfarlane) are captured and tortured for information. Despite surviving, and proving the truth about the Hullen to the leaders of the other Rack groups, the Killjoys are dealt yet another crippling blow as Aneela (Hannah John-Kamen) destroys all the enemies standing in her way.

The celebration of Johnny (Aaron Ashmore) reaching Level 5 soon turns sour when other RAC agents appear to take the Killjoy in on a warrant for his arrest for the murder of Delle Seyah Kendry (Mayko Nguyen). While needing a place to hide and allies to fight the Hullen, Pree (Thom Allison) escorts Johnny and Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) to the world of Ferran (who aren’t as glad to see the former leader as he hoped), leaving D’Avin (Luke Macfarlane) and new girl to track down the breadcrumbs that Kendry is still alive and a member of the Hullen.

“A Skinner, Darkly” offers two separate stories before bringing Johnny (Aaron Ashmore) home. Before he can get there, however, Johnny will learn the (disappointing) truth about both his missing friend and Clara (Stephanie Leonidas) and the young woman (Tommie-Amber Pirie) wearing her weaponized arm when he uncovers the facts about a re-skinning operation which is using the Hullen ooze to allow others to take on the appearance of the doctor’s (Viktoria Modesta) victims. The audience isn’t the only one disappointed in the outcome, as Johnny (thankfully) heads home calling an end to his solo travels.
