The Equalizer - Judgment Day television review

“Judgment Day” offers a convoluted storyline involving Team Equalizer hired by the defense attorney of an escaped convict (Joe Perrino) who was unjustly put in prison by a District Attorney who is now a judge (Amy Hohn) who has hired thugs out to kill anyone who might reveal her secret. Keeping an innocent man out of prison, and getting justice for the crimes he’s accused of, means working with both Detective Marcus Dante (Tory Kittles) and an Assistant District Attorney (Jennifer Ferrin). The episode’s B-story involves some teenage drama between Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes) and a friend drifting apart which means more to Robyn (Queen Latifah) than her daughter. The B-story feels mostly like filler pulled from a afterschool special, albeit one without a point, while the main story proves to be the weakest of the show so far.

The Equalizer - Glory television review

Team Equalizer gets its first case when a single mother answers Robyn McCall’s (Queen Latifah) ad after her son is kidnapped by human traffickers looking for information in her boss’ safe. It turns out her boss (Charlie Semine) is with the FBI and the safe contains the name of a confidential informant within the trafficking ring. Detective Marcus Dante (Tory Kittles) continues to seek the mystery woman, including tying her to a recent double-homicide (where she saved to kids from the traffickers), but Robyn’s cause may have garnered a new friend in the FBI as her actions not only protect his witness but also lead to the discovery of a mole within his own team.

The Equalizer - The Equalizer television review

Queen Latifah stars in this reimagining of the late 80s TV-show as a retired intelligence officer who decides to put their skills to new use by helping out the innocent people in need. The show’s first episode introduces us to Robyn McCall (Latifah), her rebellious daughter (Laya DeLeon Hayes), and some old associates (Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira, and Chris Noth) Robyn calls on to help a young girl (Lorna Courtney) framed for murder to an astonishingly degree (complete with instantaneous altered video footage). We’re also introduced to Tory Kittles as Detective Marcus Dante who becomes aware of Robyn’s activities and may prove to be an ally within the NYPD.
