Continuum - Second Wave

What should be a big win, the capture of Garza (Luvia Petersen), turns out to nothing but trouble for Kiera (Rachel Nichols) whose idea to reactivate the military-grade CMR chip inside Travis‘ (Roger R. Cross) head based on Garza’s slip of the tongue accidentally leads to Travis being connected to Kiera and Alec’s network. Forcing a shutdown of the connection, Kiera is left without Alec’s help during an attack by a pair of freelancers (Adrian HolmesZak Santiago) and is later taken captive by Julian Randol (Richard Harmon)  and his new movement.

Eventually Alec is able to restart the CMRs separately, but in doing so he causes a momentary window for the freelancers to grab Garza who escaped from the precinct after killing a cop, while Travis is incapacitated. Emily‘s (Magda Apanowicz) conflict of interest on spying on Alec for Mr. Escher (Hugh Dillon) causes the mystery man to show up in public and make a pitch for Alec’s services himself. And Lucas (Omari Newton) is haunted by visions of Curtis (Terry Chen) who tries to convince Sonya‘s (Lexa Doig) right-hand man that it’s time for a change.

The reactivating of Travis’ CMR may allow Alec to track him but it also gives him access to data and resources that had been denied the soldier and could definitely make him even more formidable. After stealing the bodies of the dead, with this episode the freelancers up their game by trying to take live time travelers for their own purposes. This episode also shows us how far Escher is willing to get what he wants and that Curtis, like Escher, is one of the freelancers making a link between Liber8 and this other organization that much more likely.
