Covert Affairs - Silence Kit

After Annie (Piper Perabo) is caught in a traffic accident while trailing a member of the NSA (Michael Cram) who Auggie‘s (Christopher Gorham) source believes in the leak responsible for the attack on the CIA Chicago field office, Covert Affairs takes the time for Annie’s heart-to-heart with her handler discussing her medical condition and how it was diagnosed and treated with the help of Eyal (Oded Fehr). Fearing the hospital blood work might expose the secret she’s worked so hard to conceal, and end her role as a field operative, Annie redoubles her efforts to prove her theory before her medical records make it to Joan‘s (Kari Matchett) desk.

The episode’s B-story involves a black-tie affair where Senator Pierson (Kate Trotter) has opened up funding for outside security firms leaving Arthur (Peter Gallagher) in the uncomfortable position of working against his wife and snag the contracts for McQueen Security. The two stories collide when Annie and Auggie show up at the party with a Hail Mary attempt to turn the NSA agent’s wife on what Annie legitimately believes is her final night as a field agent for the Central Intelligence Agency.

Planning on attending the dinner with Hayley (Amy Jo Johnson), and with nothing to show for spending the night working with Annie, Auggie is forced to try and make amends but not before making sure to do a little editing on Annie’s medical file before the powers that be within the CIA learn of her condition. The night also brings new trouble for Calder (Hill Harper) when both Joan another attendee at the party witness his moment of wanton lust at the party with Maria (Nazneen Contractor).

Along with an all-too-short appearance from Eyal, the episode brings Hayley and Auggie’s relationship to Annie’s attention (while thankfully going against cliche and not having Annie overreact to the situation), and the episode continues to Ryan McQuaid’s (Nic Bishop) role in conjunction to both the CIA and Annie’s personal life without yet fully revealing whether the security magnate is on the side of the angels or devils (although, as I’ve said before, I have some suspicions). Along with Auggie’s editing help, Annie also gets a big win by killing the traitor who supplied the information leading to the attack (which he was about to do a second time before showing up in Annie’s apartment to silence her). It also earns the CIA a big win, even if it was too late for Joan to capitalize on it and keep her current level of funding.

  1. I thought McQuaid was a villain too but this episode may have changed my mind. Bring back Eyal more! I love him with Annie.
