Danger Man - An Affair of State television review

Our Throwback Thursday post takes us back into the Cold War spycraft of Danger Man. John Drake (Patrick McGoohan) flies to San Pablo to investigate the suspicious disappereance an American economist who was deciding whether or not the Caribbean state would receive money from the United States Government. All evidence points to a suicide, but while investigating the official story Drake runs across the the man’s secret wife (Dorothy White) who insists that the story Drake has been fed is nothing more than a pack of lies and he was killed to protect a secret he had found on the day of his death.

There are some interesting aspects to “An Affair of State” including the fact that for the first-half of the episode Drake is fooled by the elaborate charade painted about both the missing man’s life and his death. Only through his interactions with the man’s wife and a local friend (Warren Mitchell) does Drake get a glimmer of what’s really going on which eventually leads him to the very expensive secret the San Pablo government is willing to kill to protect.
