Danger Man - Find and Return television review

Our Throwback Tuesday post takes us back into the Cold War spycraft of Danger Man. Over his objections, Drake (Patrick McGoohan) is sent to Beth Ja Brin in the Middle East to find and return Vanessa Stewart (Moira Lister) who has fled England. Hardy (Richard Wattis) desperately wants the woman returned and prosecuted for espionage. The situation is complicated by the woman being kept under lock and key by the powerful local Mr. Ramfi (Paul Stassino) and the arrival of a friend and former ally (Warren Mitchell) of Drake now working the other side.

Worming his way into the compound by playing on the insecurities of Ramfi’s wife (Zena Marshall) about his husband’s romantic interests in Vanessa, Drake (while passing himself off as the agent on the other side to arrange her departure) is able to convince Vanessa into leaving with him. There’s an awful lot happening here involving Drake’s planning given the short window in which he has to complete his mission. Taking a shine to Vanessa, Drake does deliver her back to London but without the added proof necessary for Hardy to throw the book at the woman. Here, and in the confrontation with a fellow spy forced to jump sides for personal reasons, the episode examines the shifting loyalties of those who make spycraft their profession.
