Lois & Clark - Honeymoon in Metropolis

With a new Superman in still in theaters every now and then I’ll continue to take a look back at the hero’s more memorable moments on both the big and small screen. On assignment for the Daily Planet, Lois (Teri Hatcher) and Clark (Dean Cain) go undercover in the honeymoon suite to keep tabs on the Chairman of the House Defense Committee (Charles Frank) and his secret meetings across the street with defense contractor Thaddeus Roarke (Charles Cyphers).

While spending days together around the clock, waiting to observe the next clandestine meeting, Lois and Clark pass the time with a variety of games (where Clark learns Lois is a very sore loser), adjust to living full-time with a member of the opposite sex (a first for both reporters), and even do a little smooching to protect their cover from the hotel maid. Eventually, with a little help from Perry White‘s (Lane Smith) secret source “Sore Throat” (Richard Libertini), the pair uncover the truth of a government program named Project: Shockwave  created by Lex Luthor (John Shea) who beat out Roarke’s alternative coastal defense system. And it appears Roarke is even more of a sore loser than Lois.

With the focus on Clark and Lois spending some real time together, “Honeymoon in Metropolis” has very little of the Man of Steel, who only shows twice. The first time Superman helps a snooping Lois out of danger and in the episodes’s final few minutes our spandex clad hero shows up once more to stop a giant tsunami from leveling the Metropolis docks. Even without much of Superman the episode is memorable for the deepening relationship between our two leads which will only get stronger as the series continues. Although Lois complains about having to share the hotel suite and story with Clark, by the time the credits role it’s Miss Lane who misses their time together enough to call Clark and say goodnight before enjoying the final night in the hotel alone.

  1. There’s another episode where they spend the night undercover and Clark burns a lampshade with his heat vision. They are two of my favorites.
