Lois & Clark - I've Got a Crush on You

With a new Superman ready to fly into theaters this week every now and then I’ll continue to take a look back at the hero’s more memorable moments on both the big and small screen. “I’ve Got a Crush on You” gives us both Lois (Teri Hatcher) and Clark (Dean Cain) undercover at a nightclub which is a front for the head of the Metro Gang. Both reporters are trying to uncover who is setting fire to buildings in the West River neighborhood. The full truth, which neither will fully discover, is that the is gang financed by Lex Luthor (John Shea) who has plans to buy up real estate cheap and reinvent the waterfront as Lex Harbor.

An early episode of the series, “I’ve Got a Crush on You” is memorable for several reasons including Lois working undercover as a sultry lounge singer (after making it up the chain as a back-up dancer dressed in a ridiculous chicken costume), Clark blowing her cover and unceremoniously dumping her in the garbage, and her obvious jealousy for the mutual attraction between Clark (under the guise of Charlie the bartender) and the new head of the Metros (Jessica Tuck). The episode also reinforces the idea of how much Luthor enjoys working from the shadows while letting others take the risk as he reaps the rewards.

In her partnership with Luthor, Toni (Tuck) creates a group of suped-up flamethrower thugs called the Toasters to take control of the Metros from her brother (Michael Milhoan), but when she looses control of the gang its up to Superman to stop the group and slow down the fire burning across the waterfront with the use of nearby storm clouds and his super-breath, and Clark to turn over Toni to the authorities. Although the Toasters themselves aren’t as impressive as I’m sure the show had in mind, the episode works in further developing the partnership between Lois and Clark and introducing a new criminal element in the the Metros.
