When the son of a judge (David Costabile) is kidnapped and his nanny is killed (Adriana Gaviria) Reese (Jim Caviezel) must work with the father to track down a group of highly-trained Eastern European kidnappers and bring Sam (Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick) back alive.

The judge is willing to pay any ransom asked of him but what the kidnappers really want is the assured outcome of a case involving a account executive (Meredith Patterson) charged with DWI and vehicular manslaughter in a hit-and-run. While searching for the boy Reese uncovers a money laundering scheme and the reason why the gang is going to so much trouble to keep the accountant out of prison.

For an episode about a child kidnapping and a woman getting away with negligent homicide the writers still find a way to give us some lighter moments. Reese’s trail leads him to two of the kidnappers and his interrogation techniques (which involve a trunk, a hamburger, and the promise of freedom), though simple and somewhat time consuming, turn out to give him exactly what he needs. Reese’s giftwrapping of the gang for Carter (Taraji P. Henson) and Fusco (Kevin Chapman) also made me smile.

“Judgement” may not be quite as good as last week’s episode, though it is a nice turn that the money launderer is the worst human being in a group of killers and kidnappers, but it’s another solid adventure of the week episode that should please most fans of the show.

  1. I liked the banter between Finch and Reese at the diner both at the beginning and the end of the episode. It showed a lighter side of both characters, and actually brought a smile to Reese’s face.
