Rick and Morty - The ABCs of Beth television review

Just who is Beth (Sarah Chalke)? For nearly three full seasons Rick and Morty has shown us who people want her to be, but who is she really? The discovery that her childhood imaginary world was actually a pocket dimension created by Rick (Justin Roiland) to keep her away from harming other kids (with ray guns and a whip to make others like her, yeesh), and that a childhood friend believed to have been killed by his father has been trapped there for decades is the start of a father/daughter adventure in which Beth realizes just how much like her father she truly is. Who is Beth? Turns out she’s very much her father’s daughter.

While the main episode center around Rick, Beth, and the awfulness Tommy has become (this is a pretty fucked-up episode folks), the back-up story provides its share of moments as Morty (Roiland) and Summer (Spencer Grammer) learn about her father’s new girlfriend: a Krutabulon warrior named Keara who winds up hunting Morty and Summer after Jerry (Chris Parnell) breaks up with her. As sad and pathetic as Jerry is once again at the end of the episode, it was fun to see him be more than the pitiful sack we usually see (which is only further underlined by Keara’s reasons for dating him). Poor Jerry.
