After months of refusing to air the final episodes of Batman: The Brave and the Bold (the episodes were released on iTunes back in June) Cartoon Network seems to have finally relented. The first of the remaining episode, “Scorn of the Star Sapphire!” focuses on Batman‘s (Diedrich Bader) trip to Coast City to have his new vehicles, made by Ferris Aircraft, tested by the best damn test pilot there is – Hal Jordan (Loren Lester). Yeah, I’ve missed this show.
The episode is set around Batman saving Coast City while Hal and Carol Ferris show off the new vehicles to a reporter during the tests. Sadly for his love life, Hal keeps standing Carol (Rachel Quaintance) up to help Batman take down some of Coast City’s villains such as Tattooed Man and Major Disaster, before the two combine forces to take down one of Green Lantern’s greatest enemies – Star Sapphire (Vicki Lewis).
Although Sapphire’s split personality, and the final battle with GL and Batman against the invading Zamorans feels a bit rushed and isn’t resolved as well as I’d like, the show is full of action and I really like this version of Green Lantern’s classic costume. The episode also includes a fun opening sequence involving Batman and Steve Trevor (Sean Donnellan) being saved by Wonder Woman (also voiced by Vicki Lewis) – complete with the invisible jet and the old Wonder Woman theme music! Sigh, I’ve missed this show.
This was one of my favorite episodes. I miss this show.
