Supergirl - Parasite Lost television review

“Parasite Lost” presents two threats for Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and the DEO. The first, involving the Jensen (Anthony Konechny) reborn as the new Parasite with the ability to drain the life force of humans and powers of aliens, offers too much danger for Supergirl to fight and becomes the responsibility of Alex (Chyler Leigh) and the DEO. The new Parasite works well, and I’m a bit sad to see the character knocked-off so quickly (although there’s always room for a new Parasite down the road). With Kara uninvolved here, at least until the two storylines converge in the final act, “Parasite Lost” allows more time for Kara Danvers than Supergirl as she works on a story about an alien healer and then deals with the fallout with the help of J’onn (David Harewood) who it seems has found a new purpose.

The second threat is much more insidious. Through stories involving Kara’s story of an alien healer, James “Don’t Call Me Jimmy” Olsen‘s (Mehcad Brooks) and Lena (Katie McGrath) attending a media network event, and Alex getting to know her new boss, the characters discover anti-alien sentiment they had believed to be present only in a small splinter faction has actually grown to all areas and industries. This isn’t a fringe group of radicals, Lockwood‘s (Sam Witwer) message has reached a large audience all to eager for a scapegoat to lay the blame for everything wrong with their own lives. While the DEO is able to take down Parasite, largely due to Alex’s ability to reason with Jensen and tap back into his core humanity, the other threat continues to fester and offers no easy solutions.
