As Daisy (Carla Gallo) returns to the Jeffersonian intern rotation for the first time since breaking up with Sweets (John Francis Daley), Booth (David Boreanaz) and Bones (Emily Deschanel) investigate the murder of the death duola of a cancer victim who was buried with the young woman in a shallow grave. Sweets talks with the cancer victim’s husband (Larry Dorf), as Bones and Booth talk with the new age alternative burial director (Chuck‘s Vik Sahay) about the murder and burial of his former partner. With a focus on character and murder (rather than yet another quirky plotline) the show succeeds in finding a little of its old magic for the best show of the season so far.
Back in the lab an exceptionally focused Daisy discovers cause of death not only for the doola but for the cancer victim whose cancer wasn’t advanced far enough to cause her death. Everyone in the Jeffersonian is impressed by Daisy’s super-focused and cool nature, even after running into Sweets in the lab. Suspects in the murder include the woman’s partner (in more than just business), the cancer victim’s husband, and a cemetery owner (John Rubinstein) who had an acrimonious relationship with the competition.
The unorthodox manner of the victims’ burial begins a round-robin discussion around the lab on what each member of the Jeffersonian wants done with their ashes. Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) and Bones tie for the most inventive with his fervent wish to have his remains shot into the sun and her involved ceremony featuring vultures and hammers. The episode ends with Booth catching the murderer of both victims, making a video for Christine (in event of his death), and one of the best scenes of the season between Daisy and Cam (Tamara Taylor) who catches Daisy finally letting out her emotions after a hard day back at the lab and admitting to both Sweets and herself that his choice to break off their engagement was indeed the right choice.
