Shadowhunters - Alliance / All Good Things... television review

Shadowhunters comes to a close with a pair of episodes wrapping up the remaining storylines and teasing what might have been in the show’s future and one character’s re-introduction to a mysterious new world. “Alliance” focuses on the heroes coming together, with the unexpected assistance of Lorenzo (Javier Muñoz), and traveling to Edom to rescue Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) and save him from Lilith (Anna Hopkins). “All Good Things…” gives us the marriage between Magnus and Alec (Matthew Daddario) and the conclusion of the Jonathan (Luke Baines) storyline which leaves ripples for all those concerned. Although it presents them with one last hurdle to overcome in her temporary infusion by Heavenly Fire, the end of the series finally puts Simon (Alberto Rosende) and Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia) together at last. Luke (Isaiah Mustafa) gets a new beginning as well, restored to his former Shadowhunter self. And Clary (Katherine McNamara)… well, she loses quite a bit over the final two episodes by defying the angels one too many times and finds her life as a Shadowhunter forgotten.

Shadowhunters - City of Glass television review

Setting up next week’s series finale, “City of Glass” features a last-ditch plan by Jace (Dominic Sherwood), Alec (Matthew Daddario), and Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia) to break Clary (Katherine McNamara) from Jonathan‘s (Luke Baines) sway. While successful in breaking the toxic bond between the siblings, the Shadowhunters are too late to stop Jonathan from retrieving the Morning Star Sword and using it to create a rift allowing demons to enter the city. While evil Clary is a bit more fun than the regular version, its good to see the character back in control of her faculties heading into the show’s conclusion.

Shadowhunters - Heavenly Fire television review

Hoping to discover just what the Clave is doing the the Downworlders, and find a mystical artifact to break the connection between Clary (Katherine McNamara) and Jonathan (Luke Baines), Simon (Alberto Rosende) agrees to Isabelle‘s (Emeraude Toubia) plan of sending the vampire into the secret prison as a prisoner to discover the truth. Along the way he’ll meet a new friend (Sydney Meyer), come across an old one (David Castro), and discover how Victor Aldertree (Nick Sagar) plans to save the world from Downworlders by turning them into mundanes. Foiling Aldertree’s scheme and saving a portion of his concoction for Clary, thanks in large part to some inside help, once again the show teases us with the possibility of throwing Isabelle (who looks great in that dress by the way) and Simon together (Isamon? Simabelle?). C’mon, isn’t it time to throw these wacky kids together?

Shadowhunters - To the Night Children television review

The search for Jonathan (Luke Baines) is momentarily paused as characters deal with the the massacre of Heidi‘s (Tessa Mossey) vampires on the pack. Unable to explain the supernatural circumstances to the police, Luke (Isaiah Mustafa) prepares to take the fall for the crime feeling guilty what happened on his watch. Maia (Alisha Wainwright) struggles with being the sole survivor (and plans her revenge) while Heidi sicks the Shadowhunters on her clan, denying any responsibility or involvement in the attack (while playing both sides against each other to increase her power and stature among the vampires). Although Heidi’s plan succeeds, Maia finds a way to outsmart the vampire though her choice of vengeance doesn’t sit well with Simon (Alberto Rosende). After a short build-up, Heidi’s quick demise comes as a bit of a surprise although her actions, and demise, do force characters to consider the Accords and the laws they live by.
