Okay, that’s pretty fucked up. Having never heard of “The Monkey’s Paw,” Bear (Michael Johnston) uses an odd novelty item found in the type of antique stores that sell magical items normally only found in movies like this, Needful Things, or Gremlins, to wish that his longtime crush loved him. Almost immediately, Bear sees a change in Nikki (Inde Navarrette) who becomes both more emotionally open but also psychologically unhinged.

The 1972 Spanish-Italian horror-thriller traps a group of travelers in a mansion so far off the beaten path that the locals are unaware of its existence. Director Francisco Lara Polop‘s hit-and-miss story offers a bit of a convoluted setup, and some well-timed mysterious fog, to get a drifter (Andrés Resino), a hitchhiker (Lisa Leonardi), a prick (Franco Fantasia), an heiress (Analía Gadé), and a lawyer (Eduardo Fajardo) and his wife (Yelena Samarina) all to this lonely, although well-kept, mansion owned by a woman who may, or may not, be a vampire (Ida Galli).

Flashback Friday takes us back to the icy tundra and a new battle for survival against an alien from another world. Director John Carpenter‘s adaptation of John W. Campbell Jr.‘s novella Who Goes There? stays closer to the source material than The Thing from Another World. Set in Antarctica, our evil invader from outer space had already been thawed by a group of Norwegian scientists, the last of whom are chasing an infected dog to the American outpost. Killing the out-of-control foreigners, our team of protagonists will have to piece together how the story began not realizing the cute sled dog they’ve just let into their camp could very well mean the death of them all.

Throwback Thursday takes us back t0 1951 and the North Pole where a group of soldiers and scientists will unearth an alien from another world from beneath the ice that almost destroys them. Making several changes to the novella which spawned it, the film is your basic fight for survival at the end of the world that even pits some of the humans against each other involving the scientists, oblivious to the dangers involved, who want to capture and keep the creature alive, and the soldiers who know it must be destroyed.

Originally a completely separate throwaway slasher flick, it’s unclear whether anyone involved in this project, including director Morgan J. Freeman or screenwriters Alex Sanger and Karen Craig, ever watched American Psycho or read the book it was adapted from. Mila Kunis, who didn’t know Lions Gate planned to connect this story to American Psycho (let alone call it a sequel), would publicly apologize for the film and beg others to let the franchise die.
