The Hellboy in Love: Black Eyes one-shot takes Hellboy to Coventry in 1979 to introduce Anastasia Bransfield to a pair of old friends in retired B.P.R.D. agents Archie and Margaret. While there, the young lovers will work through a tiff (grown more out of how others object to their relationship than any problems the pair have with each other) and help the older couple with a local ghost problem involving an apparition of a young girl strolling through the city streets at night crying out for its mother.

Murder Mystery Monday takes us back to the 1930s and another case for the famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express is one of the rare instances where I prefer the Kenneth Branagh version than the classic telling we received in 1974. Director Sidney Lumet assembles a well-known cast who all board a train for murder. However, from the very beginning of the film I have issues with how Lumet chose to frame the story revealing the importance of the Armstrong tragedy in several scenes and newspaper front pages that go on ad nauseam.

1997 – The Love Bug

Largely forgotten, the 1997 entry in the Herbie franchise was a TV-movie which premiered on The Wonderful World of Disney. Perhaps the first requel, The Love Bug follows the same structure of the original film with Herbie falling through the hands of a villain (John Hannah) and into the possession of a mechanic and failed race car driver who has seen better days. While confused by the odd things which happen in the car, Hank Cooper (Bruce Campbell) refuses to acknowledge its sentience, or Herbie’s help in winning a race, leaving his wacky best bud (Kevin J. O’Connor) to be the one who first connects with the car. And, just for good measure, we get a romantic story thrown in as well.
