Batman & the Outsiders #1

Batman & the Outsiders #1 comic reviewDC Comics relaunches the Outsiders with Batman & the Outsiders #1 putting together a team of Black Lightning, Katana, Orphan, and Signal together under Batman‘s loose supervision. The first issue gives us a look at the team under Black Lightning’s command still struggling to come together in the field (with several characters struggling with their own issues).

The comic also introduces the team’s first mission as Batman sends the group after Sopia Ramos, the sole survivor of a secret organization Batman destroyed years before that hoped to create their own super-heroes. When her father is killed, Sofia’s powers are activated and she is hunted. The Outsiders aren’t the first to find her, but neither is Ra’s al Ghul (who apparently is behind the attack on the young woman and her father).

Writer Bryan Edward Hill and artist Dexter Soy deliver a solid first issue focused on the team’s dysfunction and the looming threat which will force them to come together (that, and a common goal to discover just what Batman isn’t telling them). Worth a look.
