- Title: Thundarr the Barbarian #3

- Writer: Jason Aaron

Sent back into the past, Thundarr and his friends battle the the Council of Wizards including Mindok, Lord Argoth, and Gemini who are using magic to steal power from the Great Cataclysm of 1994 that rocked the world forever changing the shape of Earth. The battle takes place in some kind of nether-region where the wizards attempt to draw power from the destruction to grow more powerful and wipe out the human menace altogether.
Thundarr the Barbarian #3 also weaves in flashbacks of a young Arial being groomed under the control of Sabian and the first meeting of Thundarr and Ookla in the slave pits where the pair stop fighting each other and listen to a stranger in the crowd who believes the three of them together can achieve a higher purpose.
The two-plots work well together even if, given the time jumping, the timeline of the comic is a bit confusing (as the events of our character’s pasts are taking place in the far future given their current location). The subplot ties into Ariel’s power, and the temptation to change time, before the return of Sabian at the end of the main story threatening the end of humanity across all time.
