The Fourth season of The Legend of Vox Machina opens with the various characters living separate lives a year after their last adventure ended. A new threat, a celebration for one of their own, and a ridiculous fop calling himself Taryon Darrington (Wayne Brady) will begin the process of bringing the group back together once more.

Along with introducing Taryon Darrington, who never tires of hearing his own voice, “One Year Later…” catches up with the uneventful lives of Grog (Travis Willingham) and Pike (Ashley Johnson) spending their days in taverns recounting their adventures (and getting shitfaced). The posh lives of Percy (Taliesin Jaffe) and Vex’ahlia (Laura Bailey) at Whitestone Castle are equally uneventful. Grog and Pike’s drunken slumber is interrupted by a familiar face destroying a temple while Percy’s experiments with the sphere go awry the same time Vex hunts a dangerous beast in the countryside.

While following up on threads from the opening episode, including Percy investigating the odd beast killed by his love and Pike and Grog looking for answers about their encounter, “Trial by Water” catches up with Keyleth (Marisha Ray) at the end of her her Aramenté on the eve of her trial doing battle with a giant kraken. Although not succeeding the the original point of the trial, Keyleth does save the day becoming Voice of the Tempe. The next episode which will bring reunions, celebration, death, and the foreboding of doom.
