Silk Stalkings Saturday takes us back to the unsolved crimes of passion in the wealthy playground of Palm Beach, Florida. Murder on a movie set forces Chris (Rob Estes) to deal with a lifetime of hurt feelings towards his estranged mother (Beverly Sassoon) who is one of the actors in the film. The episode starts with Chris and Rita (Mitzi Kapture) assigned to the set undercover prior to the murder, but the pretense is dropped once the agent (Mark Hutter) everyone hated turns up dead.
Along with offering the opportunity for Chris to share a bit of his past with Rita, the episode also allows him to make peace and start over with his mother who is never a suspect in the case, although her current lover (John Shepard) is for a short time. Our true killers turn out to be the agent’s assistant Robert Hallak and lover Randi Ingerman, both looking for a leg up with his death (although turning on each other in the final scene points them to prison rather than wealth and fame).
The episode is notable for Chris (while dressed up as his mother) getting behind the wheel in order to stand-in for the stunt driver hurt in an accident by the killers to throw suspicion on a militant group. Estes actually trained as a stunt double before breaking into acting.
