Throwback Thursday takes us back to the adventures of British spy John Steed (Patrick Macnee) and his various partners. The first of three episodes from the show’s Second Season to co-star Jon Rollason as Dr. Martin King, “Mission to Mars” takes both King and Steed to the high seas to watch a hysterical actress (Patricia English) having fled her last picture after her body double was killed. King proves more than capable, but the episode does lack the strong female foil for Steed (although we do get Gillian Muir in a very small role as the Doctor’s nurse).

What both Steed, who spends most of the episode in the role of a steward, and the enemy agents (including Alan Curtis in a ridiculous eye-patch), are after is microfilm vital to the safety of the Western hemisphere. The actress was coerced by her husband (Mark Eden), himself part of an evil cabal, to help smuggle the microfilm out of the country but has second thoughts about handing it over after spending time with Dr. King.
