Throwback Thursday takes us back to the adventures of British spy John Steed (Patrick Macnee) and his various partners. Steed goes undercover as a crook and assassin to expose a secret group of killers who just happen to meet in the same club where Venus Smith (Julie Stevens) has been hired to perform. While the episode never states that Steed was behind the hiring, given their last encounter, it could easily be implied (although what help Steed thought she could offer is certainly a question worth pondering).
Ingratiating himself to the leader of the group (Reed De Rouen) through a risky gambit, Steed joins them with his first assignment to kill a politically-active young actress (Edina Ronay) whose death he fakes long enough to keep his cover (however, not long enough to keep both he and Venus out of danger). The title and setup of the episode suggests a far larger group than just two men and one of their wives (Patricia Denys), but even if the scale of the episode turns out to be smaller than expected, it offers more direct action for Steed than many of the early episodes of the season.
