Daredevil – With Interest

  • Title: Daredevil: Born Again – With Interest
  • wiki: link

In what is the obligatory standalone crossover episode, “With Interest” continues themes of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) struggling with his need to put his skills outside of the courtroom to use. In this episode this involves Hell Kitchen’s most famous blind lawyer walking into a bank during a robbery and finding ways to keep everyone safe, prevent the theft of a rare jewel from a safe deposit box, and dole out a little punishment. The episode works in a vacuum with the various other storylines put on hold for this single adventure which, in part, is also used to introduce Matt to the bank’s assistant manager Yusuf Khan (Mohan Kapur) who happens to have a hero in the family.

While Watson (Morris Chestnut) and his team begin diagnosing a scared and erratic young woman (Caitlin Stasey) whose short-term memory resets every three minutes, Moriarty (Randall Park) blackmails Shinwell (Ritchie Coster) into messing with the good doctor’s medicine once again. This time, however, despite the hallucinations, Watson is clear enough to suspect the medication and the most likely source of its tampering. Stepping into to allow for an alternate fall guy (Ryan Robbins), Moriarty still reveals himself to Watson and recruits another member of his staff for purposes that are yet to be revealed.

Zatanna #2

/ / Comics

I was more interested in who was included in the pages of Zatanna #2 than what occurred. Mostly the comic features Zatanna popping up here and there with a magical sword shoved through her chest that no one else can see (making it hard for the character to explain the situation to others she comes across) and only the person who put it there can remove. At only the second issue in the series it does already feel a bit like filler.

Doctor Odyssey – Casino Week

  • Title: Doctor Odyssey – Casino Week
  • IMDb: link

Angela Bassett guest-stars as a cop who gets stuck aboard the Odyssey while looking for thieves who plan to rob the ship during Casino Week. Although one thief is caught while attempting to board, his two accomplices are still on the ship allowing the episode to offer up an eclectic list of red herrings including a pair of card sharks (Robbie Silverman and Angela Zhou) working the tables and a young woman named Daphne (Jade Pettyjohn) in desperate need of a heart transplant choosing to make the best of what little time she has left. The medical escapades are mostly minor, such as keeping Daphne in comfort as much as possible while Max (Joshua Jackson) helps Grant (Bassett) search for the robbers. And, in terms of ongoing storylines, Avery (Phillipa Soo) makes the first big decision regarding her future.
