Stanley Kamel

As a Monk fan I was saddened to hear of the passing of veteran actor Stanley Kamel who played the recurring character of Dr. Kroger on the show.  In a career that spanned almost forty years, beginning with a guest spot on Mission: Impossible, Kamel made his way around the tube showing up on many shows including Mannix, The Incredible Hulk, Barney Miller, Star Trek: TNG, L.A. Law, Melrose Place, Mister Sterling, and The West Wing.  In honor of his passing USA has put together a short tribute video to say goodbye.  Larger version, plus some other fun Monk clips including my favorite scene between Kamel and Tony Shaloub, can be found in the Full Diagnosis.

Anime Movie News

Fresh on the news that the guy from Cocktail will be starring in a live action adapted version of the anime Akira comes the news that Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks have bought the rights for a live-action version of Ghost in the Shell.  In 3-D no less!  If the title sounds familiar you probably read Sarah’s review of the anime last week.  The manga comic from which the anime, now the live action film, was adapted from is credited by the Wachowski Brothers as a major influence for The Matrix.  You’ll know more when we do!

Barney’s Blog

I not a big sitcom guy, but I must admit I get a kick out of How I Met Your Mother, although the narrative premise of Ted’s neverending tale about how he met the mother of his kids has been getting stale for some time now (and really isn’t that important for most of the best episodes).  This clip is from the end of the recent episode “The Bracket,” and features a fun, if not too subtle, play on Neil Partick Harris’ former television role, that of teen doctor Doogie Howser, M.D.  Larger version available inside the Full Diagnosis.

With it’s release as the first big movie of the summer only weeks away more and more Iron Man is hitting the net.  Marvel has released two new posters for the film (which has earned itself a PG-13 rating) plus a handful of new wallpapers which you can download here (sign-in required).  Plus, if you haven’t yet checked out the released pics of Iron Monger (the film’s baddie) you’ll want to take a peek inside the Full Diagnosis.

Titans #1

I’ll admit I wasn’t much of a Teen Titans fan growing up, but the idea of the original team, plus a few of the popular editions from it’s first relaunch, once again being reunited (for whatever reason) piqued my interest.  Nightwing, Beast Boy, Flash, Donna Troy, Red Arrow, Starfire, Cyborg and Raven are back.  And it’s a good thing since someone’s hunting down current and former Titans (and not to give them a hug).  Here’s our review of Titans #1.

Titans #1
Custom Rating

“Something’s happened.”

Way back in 1964 DC introduced the Teen Titans who earned a comic of their very own two years later.  The original group included Robin (Dick Grayson), Kid Flash (Wally West), Wonder Girl (Donna Troy), Aqualad, Beast Boy, Speedy (Roy Harper), Hawk and Dove.  The 1980’s relaunch introduced the characters of Starfire, Cyborg and Raven.

In the first issue of this new series all current and former members of the Teen Titans find themselves under attack from supernatural forces which put many past members out of action, one permanently.  The team gathers together at the end of the issue to take stock and and prepare for what, or should I say who, is coming.

Titans issue #1 works well in reestablishing all the characters and creating a situation which would necessitate the group reforming.  I also like the members chosen for this new team: Nightwing, Flash, Donna Troy, Beast Boy, Cyborg, Red Arrow, and Raven (and the thankful absence of Aqualad).

Although this issue didn’t blow me away, it did get me a bit nostalgic and brought enough action to get me to pick-up issue #2.
