Here’s a first look at NBC’s new series Constantine based on the long-running Vertigo comic Hellblazer centered around occult detective and con man John Constantine (Matt Ryan) dealing with a world most don’t know exists. Lucy Griffiths also stars. Set to premiere this Fall on NBC, the trailer doesn’t do much to sell me on the concept (although I’ve never been an avid Hellblazer reader).

Here’s the first look at Gotham. Ben McKenzie stars as Detective James Gordon in the new TV series set during Bruce Wayne‘s (David Mazouz) pre-Batman childhood with teen versions of his various enemies making appearances including Catwoman (Camren Bicondova), the Penguin (Robin Taylor), the Riddler (Cory Michael Smith), Two-Face, the Joker, and Poison Ivy (Clare Foley). I wonder how long it will take before one of them pushes Bruce into a locker or steals his lunch money? Sigh. The show also stars Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, Sara Paxton, Victoria Cartagena as Renee Montoya, and Zabryna Guevara as Sarah Essen. The trailer certainly looks slick, and looks more Gordon (and less Bruce) driven than I expected, but I’m still having trouble investing anything in this concept and would have far preferred the idea of resurrection the original Smallville pitch around a late teens/early twenties Bruce Wayne’s journey to become Batman. Gotham will premiere this Fall on FOX.

Following Son of Batman (available for download now, and on DVD and Blu-ray next week), DC Animation turns to Batman: Assault on Arkham for its next project. Returning Kevin Conroy as Batman, the film is obviously inspired by the popular video game franchise whose design I’ve never really care much for (although the gameplay is at times quite a bit of fun), in a storyline centering around the Joker (Troy Baker), Arkham Asylum, and a New 52-ish version of the Suicide Squad (Neal McDonough, Eliza Dushku, Hynden Walch, Kevin Grevioux). Batman: Assault on Arkham should hit the direct-to-video market sometime later this summer.
