Following up the recent cameo and TV commercial at the Olympics Sony Pictures has released the first full trailer for the 23rd Bond film Skyfall. In the new film Daniel Craig returns as 007 whose death is faked to allow Bond to investigate the the theft of the identities of every single undercover operative of MI6 from the from the madman who is apparently Max Zorin‘s creepier younger brother (Javier Bardem). Ralph Fiennes, Helen McCrory, Naomie Harris, Albert Finney, Bérénice Marlohe, and Ola Rapace star. The film returns Judi Dench as M and introduces Ben Whishaw as the rebooted Bond’s first Q. Skyfall blasts into theaters on November 9th.

  • Title: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1

The first trailer for the two-part animated movie adapatation of Frank Miller‘s Batman: The Dark Knight Returns has hit the net and the results are… mixed. From what we see here the look of Miller’s version of a an older Batman look fairly well represented but my biggest concerns are examples of voice acting we get in the trailer. Peter Weller‘s Batman is far from the older, graveled voice I was expecting. Ariel Winter sounds okay as Carrie Kelly, although (whether it be her choice or the direction) the inflection and delivery of some iconic lines seems to be off (as in her first introduction to Batman). DC’s certainly throwing a ton of money at this (for a straight-to-DVD animated film, anyway) and given my love for the original property I’m certainly going to give it a look, but I do have some concerns. The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 hits stores on October 23rd.

Warner Bros. released an initial teaser trailer for Man of Steel, DC’s new Superman reboot starring Henry Cavill as Superman. Directed by Zack Snyder, the initial trailer gives us lots of slow moving montage, little story, and Clark Kent who apparently is working with Forest Gump and Bubba as a shrimp fisherman. I’m so confused. Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne, and Tahmoh Penikett also star. Man of Steel opens in theaters next June.

Marvel Studios officially names their upcoming projects

At Comic-Con Marvel Studios made several official announcements concerning their next slate of comic book movies currently in the works and set to hit theaters over the next two years. Yes, Edgar Wright‘s Ant-Man is going forward. Yes, Iron Man 3 will star Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin. Yes, the Guardians of the Galaxy (complete with Rocket Racoon) will make their big-screen debut in 2014. And we’ve also got new titles for two of the sequels. Thor: The Dark World doesn’t offer much in terms of hints as to the plot but Captain America: The Winter Soldier sure as hell does (there are also reports that Anthony Mackie has signed on to play the Falcon). There’s a new Green Lantern in town

Green LanternTV Guide reported yesterday that when Green Lantern: The Animated Series returns for its second season this Fall a new character will join the cast – Guy Gardner. It seems Gardner replaced Hal Jordan as Green Lantern of space sector 2814 during Hal’s lengthy absence last season. Now with Hal back things should get interesting. Kudos to the show not only for using Guy but also the choice of Diedrich Bader (Batman: The Brave and the Bold) to voice him. Well played.
