Wrapping up the title’s opening arc, Batgirl #6 reveals all of the trouble Shiva and Batgirl are having with the Unburied was caused by Shiva herself. As the pair escape, thanks to something Cassandra learned from Batman, the conflict within Batgirl towards her mother continues. At one point we even get Cassandra Cain washing her hand of Shiva, although the latter’s sacrifice to end the issue (and the tease of what is coming starting next month) suggests the two aren’t done with each other just yet.

Secret Six #2

Secret Six #2 is your basic longtime staple of comics in which the “heroes” have a run-in and fight and then decide to work together. With the previous issue dropping Jon Kent, Gossamer, and Dreamer at the House of Secrets in a cliffhanger ending, issue #2 is really just about pitting that trio against Black Alice, Deadshot, and Catman. During the various fights we learn that both Deadshot and Dreamer want to find the missing Amanda Waller (who may be with Checkmate now?), but for vastly different reasons.

Darkwing Duck #2

The second issue of the new Darkwing Duck series, set early-ish in the crime-fighter’s career, gives us Bushroot who takes the place of the substitute teacher at Gosalyn‘s school just as she tries out (and fails to land) the starring role in the school play. Promising to help her get a larger role if she helps him out in his garden, Gosalyn unwittingly helps the criminal create bushy henchmen in the look of her classmates and also St. Canard’s most famous hero.

Nights #14

Continuing the focus on Gray‘s past, Nights #14 offers us a flashback to Gray meeting the lizard-swaying magic user Erik and the fallout of the pair stealing the Magic 8-Ball which leads Chimera to their door. Gray puts up a fight, but eventually surrenders to save Erik (leading to them being caged and targeted for death by Chimera). The classic toy, however, may have other ideas.

Wonder Woman #19

For the first time in this extended run pitting the Sovereign against Wonder Woman, other than the unnecessary Absolute Power tie-in,  it feels as Tom King and Daniel Sampere have made a misstep. Everything has led to this “conclusion” (which it turns out isn’t a conclusion at all) leading Diana to the White House and her confrontation with the man who has attempted to take everything from her. Although we get that scene, eventually, it’s not the focus of the issue in an oddly structured comic that just feels “off: from the get-go.
